One of my favorite questions was back when we were learning about Carbocations. In the book, there were a lot of problems that referenced the stability of them. Here is one of my favorite questions was Chapter 6, the end of section 6.2, practice problem #4.
4. List the following carbocations in each set in order from most stable to least stable:
CH3 + +
A. CH3-CH2-C-CH3 CH3-CH2-CH-CH3 CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2
+
Solving A, Tertiary is most stable, then followed by secondary and primary.
+ + +
B. CH3CHCH2CH2 CH3CHCH2CH2 CH3CHCH2CH2
F CL CH3
Solving B, Since they are all primary Carbocations we must look at the electronegativity and place them in the proper order.
I liked this post and I also liked this chapter. At first this chapter confused me and then I read the book!
