We learned these types of problems early on in the beginning of the semester. In this problem we must first be able to locate the more electronegative atom of the two that are given. It is also important to understand that non-polar bonds are symmetrical so one is not going to favor over another. With this being know, symmetrical atoms are non polar. For example, the first one is Br-Br which is both symmetrical meaning that one would not draw an arrow in the box. In the second one, H-Cl the Cl is more electronegative than so the arrow would be drawn like this H--->Cl. H-Cl is polar towards that right. In the third one, F-CH_3 the most electronegative atom is F so the arrow would be drawn towards the left, F<--CH_3. Tuesday, December 9, 2014
