Chapter 6 Problem 3
Chapter 6 is the alkene reactions with different reagents.
For number 3, on the homework in sapling, you were supposed to draw the arrows
for the alkene reaction with HCl.
Step 1: The electrons from the double bond go toward the H
on the HCl. At the same time, the bond between the H and Cl are broken. This
gives you the carbocation and Cl ion.

Step 2: The carbocation forms on the most stable
carbocation. The carbocation is the place where the Cl ion will attach to once
the reaction is complete. The most stable carbocation is a tertiary
carbocation. The arrow is drawn from the minus on the Cl to the plus on the carbocation
to show the electrons forming a bond with the positive charge on the tertiary carbon.
Conclusion: The reaction of an alkene and HCl will lead to an alkane with the halogen on the more substituted carbon in the alkene.

I like how you drew it all out like this. This was one of those reactions that I had completely forgotten as soon as we finished chapter six, and I had to spend a lot of time reviewing reactions with HCl and reactions with Cl2 to figure out and memorize their differences.
