Ion trap quantum computers for chemistry



 
Dr. Kenneth Brown, the speaker of this seminar clearly says in his abstract “Quantum computers promise to revolutionize scientific computing, but the construction of these devices remains a daunting challenge”. The way that he describes his work towards building reliable quantum computers from trapped ions is that he spends most of his time studying and working with ion traps such as electrode traps and mirror traps and other types different types of ions figuring out how the properties of them work. Some of the recent efforts to use the technology of quantum information for molecular spectrometry and chemical analysis are the creation of the coldest molecular ion, which was a great accomplishment within his work space. Some of the basic discussions of quantum information that he talked about were how the common and very useful navigation systems would not be about without this quantum mechanics that he speaks of. Dr. Brown makes quantum chemistry a very convincing field to work in.
