miRNA and Viruses at Duke University

Dr. Cullen from Duke University

            In this particular seminar on October 24, 2014, the speaker, Dr. Cullen was talking about microRNA, how it relates to Viruses and what microRNA. Also, he shared some of his data from the experiments he had been doing a Duke University.  For microRNA, it works with the regulatory cellular differentiation. It comes from pre- micro RNA, which is about one hundred nucleotides long. Some of the viruses that the speaker talked about were HIV-1 and HTLV-1. Those particular viruses have no miRNA. The speaker Dr. Cullen talked about how the micro RNA impacts the viruses. He talked about how his team using a particular tool to target specific micro RNA and how not all of the targets in the viruses are changed to a matching RNA. He discovered that the EBV virus, that is a human pathogen, would not be able to grow without the mi155 RNA.
