On November 14th, I attended Dr.Kenneth Brown's seminar about Ion Trap Quantum Computers for Chemistry. For the bulk of his presentation Mr. Brown spoke mainly of the difference between Classical and Quantum Computers. He's a professor at Georgia Tech and researches quantum mechanics/computers, ion traps, and ion stability. He taught his audience that the main difference and use of Quantum
Computer was that it solves problems too difficult for a traditional
computer, which is why they are performing research on it-- to make it
more popular. They have three requirements which are quantum bits/qubits, one qubit
gates, and two qubit gates. However, his students and himself
continuously make improvements on the quantum computers because they
have several errors present which make calculations incorrect.
Within the next few years, Quantum computers will become more popular according to Dr.Brown.
