Nocathiacin I is a natural product specifically an antibiotic peptide that is isolated from Nocardia species and Amicolaptosis species by use of fermentation. Nocardia itself is a bacteria with over 85 species that is less likely to cause fatalities than other bacteria.
The natural product being discussed is a cyclic thiazolyl peptide antibiotic. Thiazolyl directly translates to radical of thiazol. The great thing about this molecule is that it has a huge force of antibacterial activity against many Gram-positive bacteria such as MRSA, VRE, and PRSP.
Gram-positive bacteria is bacteria that when stained dark blue or violet by Gram-staining it retains the dark blue or violet color. Gram-positive cell walls usually do not have the outer membrane found in it's counterparts (Gram-Negative). Fun fact, nocathiacin is insoluble in aqueous solution.
