MY Personal Favorite Molecule- Methane

Methane is the simplest hydrocarbon, but certainly not the least important. It is my favorite molecule simply because it is an important fuel source providing electricity, thermal energy and transportation fuel. Unfortunately, the second largest source of greenhouse emissions is methane, most of which is released from landfills. The relative abundance of methane makes it an attractive fuel, though capturing and storing it may pose challenges due to its gaseous state found at normal conditions.Methane is a non-toxic, colorless, odorless gas that comprises 94.6% of natural gas.

  1. Methane is a very important molecule because it is used in our everyday lives. Your post was very informative. Previous to reading your post, I was not aware methane was non-toxic. Also, it may be assumed that gas has a color due to the color of the flame, when actually the gas is colorless.
